Report your game harvest
Your harvest information enables us to better manage wildlife
Reporting your hunt information is important. Harvest reports are a crucial tool so that we can maintain more comprehensive and quality harvest data, which in turn provides better insights into Utah's big game hunts and populations over time.
All big game species have mandatory reporting requirements — even if you didn't harvest an animal. Not completing your harvest report in a timely manner can impact you in several ways:
- It can affect your ability to hunt or get a bonus or preference point in the next year's hunt drawing.
- You will need to pay a $50 late fee after the 30-day reporting window in order to be eligible for next year's big game and antlerless applications. (This fee will be waived for the 2024 buck deer and bull elk general-season hunts; see further information about this requirement, below.)
Submitting teeth or other biological samples from your animal — or having your animal checked by a DWR representative or CWMU operator — does not fulfill your mandatory harvest reporting requirement.
Information you will need to complete your harvest survey
Complete your harvest survey online or call 800-221-0659.
To complete your mandatory harvest survey, you must provide the following information:
- Log in with your DWR Customer ID number (on your hunting or combination license) and date of birth
- The total number of days hunted
- The number of animals wounded (if any)
- If you successfully harvested:
- The date and location of the kill
- Deer and elk hunters report the number of points on each antler and the antler width at the widest point (in inches) from the animal
- Bull elk hunters report additional antler measurements — like the main beam length of one antler (to the nearest eighth of an inch) and the length of each point (to the nearest eighth of an inch)
- Once-in-a-lifetime species have additional measurements required for their harvest report (see below)
- See an example of these types of measurements.
General-season buck deer and bull elk (new requirements)
New this year: Beginning in 2024, if you obtain a general-season buck deer or bull elk permit of any kind, you must report your harvest online or call it in at 800-221-0659 (our toll-free harvest survey hotline). Harvest reporting is now mandatory, even if you did not hunt or did not harvest. Failure to comply will result in exclusion from next year's big game and antlerless hunt drawings. (The $50 reinstatement fee will be waived for the 2024 buck deer and bull elk general-season hunts.)
This mandatory reporting requirement includes the following hunts:
- General-season buck deer
- Lifetime buck deer
- Leftover buck deer
- General-season landowner buck deer
- Dedicated Hunter buck deer
- General-season youth archery buck deer (over-the-counter)
- General-season any bull elk
- General-season spike bull elk
- General-season archery elk
- Youth general-season elk
- Draw-only youth any bull/hunter’s choice elk
Extended archery season reporting
If you are hunting the extended archery seasons for general-season buck deer or bull elk (does not apply to limited-entry hunts), you have up to 30 days after the extended archery hunt closes to report your harvest.
Limited-entry (all types), Once-in-a-Lifetime and CWMU
Harvest reporting is mandatory. Mandatory harvest reporting includes all limited-entry, premium limited-entry, draw-only youth any bull/hunter’s choice elk, management and cactus buck deer, once-in-a-lifetime and CWMU permits. Reporting is required even if you did not hunt or did not harvest. Failure to comply will result in exclusion from next year's big game and antlerless hunt drawings. You may report your harvest online or by calling toll-free 800-221-0659. Submitting teeth or other biological samples from your animal, or having your animal checked by a DWR representative or CWMU operator does not fulfill your mandatory harvest reporting requirement. You must report your harvest online or by calling the toll-free harvest survey hotline 800-221-0659.
New this year: Management buck deer, cactus buck deer and bighorn sheep are no longer required to have a physical check-in at a Division office after harvest. Additionally, bighorn sheep horns will not require a plug. Remember, if you obtain any of these permits you must complete the online harvest report within 30 days of your hunt season ending, even if you did not harvest a deer or sheep. Report your harvest online or by calling toll-free 800-221-0659.

Antlerless deer, elk, moose, ewe bighorn sheep and doe pronghorn
If you obtain an antlerless permit of any kind, you must report your harvest online or call 800-221-0659 (our toll-free harvest survey hotline). Harvest reporting for all antlerless permits is mandatory, even if you did not hunt or did not harvest. Failure to comply will result in a $50 fine and/or exclusion from next year's big game and antlerless hunt drawings. Submitting teeth or other biological samples from your animal — or having your animal checked by a DWR representative or CWMU operator — does not fulfill your mandatory harvest reporting requirement.
Big game teeth, blood samples and chronic wasting disease testing
Occasionally, we ask successful big game hunters to submit a tooth, blood or tissue sample from their animal. We analyze teeth for aging purposes. We sometimes collect blood samples from bison and elk for brucellosis testing. If you receive a tooth envelope or blood sampling kit, please follow all included instructions. Submitting a tooth or a blood sample, or having your animal sampled for chronic wasting disease testing, does not fulfill any mandatory harvest reporting requirements. You must still complete your harvest survey online or by calling toll-free 800-221-0659.
