In an effort to enhance fishing and boost native fish populations, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources stocks a variety of fish species throughout Utah every year. In 2021, the DWR worked to proactively change its fish stocking to help more fish survive during the extreme drought.

Utah's Watershed Restoration Initiative works to improve and restore high-priority watersheds and habitats throughout the state. During this past fiscal year, crews completed 174 habitat restoration projects, resulting in 223 miles of stream improvements.

After a proposal to move the over-the-counter, general-season elk permits to the big game drawing for a one-year trial due to increased demand and system overload issues, the Utah Wildlife Board voted Thursday to continue selling the permits over the counter, and also approved a few other hunting changes during a public meeting.
Utah's growing population and related expansion have increased the number of wildlife encounters across the state in recent years. However, not every encounter or animal sighting needs to be reported to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.

Utah’s swan hunting season has closed 16 days early after the federal quota of 20 trumpeter swans was met on Friday, Nov. 26. This is the third consecutive year that the swan hunt had to be closed early.
The Division of Wildlife Resources is proposing changes to the use of trail cameras and other hunting-related technologies. The DWR is also recommending some changes to black bear and cougar hunting in the state, as well as some other items, and is seeking the public's feedback on the proposals.
